Campaign Summary

Prologue

Cuttle Izapyrate shows up in Port Royal looking for a crew to join. He finds Jareth Mambosa and joins his crew, then they are joined by Jose Gaspar when he shows them his map to the Devil's Shroud in exchange for food. The crew steals an unnamed ship and dubs it the Lady LeGoon. They are caught stealing the ship by a GMU Man of War ship, and Jareth shoots the captain, putting their names on the wanted list after cuttle reveals their names.

They stop at Isla Mosquito before entering the shroud to get supplies. Cuttle gets in bed with the shipwright in exchange for supplies as Jareth and Jose get an enchanted map of the Sea of Thieves. Jareth and Jose also go to the Unfired Pistol tavern and speak to Rowenna about the Pirate lord. The crew heads out after getting supplies and enters the Shroud, where they end up turning off course and into the deadly mist. They wake up in the Sea of Thieves almost completely unharmed.

An Easy Start

The crew celebrates their arrival and meet Duke at Golden Sands Outpost, who tells them the weaponsmith here is acting odd. The crew talks to the weaponsmith, Wanda, and the skeletal parrot, Salty, outside her door. Wanda has a temper and a complex, and keeps talking about her "killer weapon" and how "they'll see, they'll all see." The crew then gets a treasure map from Hugh the Hoarder and a ominous fortune telling from Madame Olga.

This session ended here, but the following would have happened if we continued: The crew would have found the treasure chest at Rapier Cay, sold it to Humphrey the Hoarder at Golden Sands, gotten a delivery contract from Senior Trader Mollie, recovered the animal at Lonely Isle and delivered it to the North Star Seapost. There they would have found a bounty poster for Quick Dicken, a skeleton who is a part of the crew of Captain Grogg Mayles. They would have defeated him at the Lagoon of Whispers and headed Southeast into the Ancient Isles.

The Hungering Deep

The crew of the Lady LeGoon meets the crew of the Faithful Gull, and adopts Francois de Baignoire as the Gull excommunicates him. Duke tells the crew to investigate Shark Bait Cove, where they meet Merrick, who claims to have been maimed by a great beast. Following his trail of journals, his tale is proven true, and once the crew returns with all three, he decides to share the Summoning shanty. Forming an uneasy alliance with the Faithful Gull, the crews summon and defeat the Hungering One. Percival went aboard the Lady LeGoon to be the 5th player of the shanty, and Jareth was knocked of the ship in one of the Megalodon's charges. He swims over to the Faithful Gull, so the two pirates have swapped spots. After the defeat, Cuttle is suddenly thrust the duty of Captain upon him.

During the search for the journals, the crew ran into Wanda, who seems to have caught a nasty curse...

Cursed Sails

Waking up in Golden Sands Outpost, the crew quicky discovers that the Sea of Thieves is being threatened by someone named Captain Warsmith. Duke tells the crew to speak to Sharon the Shipwright, where they learn Wanda has gone missing. Investigating her shop they meet her sister and find clues to what has happened to her. Following the clues leads to Salty, who seems to be losing his memory fast. Pierce decides to take Salty along with them, and they recover Wanda's journals detailing how Salty found a cannon that she experimented with to create Cursed Cannonballs and cursed herself, leading to her eviction from her job and becoming Warsmith and waging war on the outposts, in service of a certain Captain Flameheart. Salty, having regained his memories, decides to go off on his own. After investigating the Warsmith's lab, the crew decides to fight the skeleton fleets, and they win, sending the Warsmith to the depths...

Forsaken Shores

Now with a decent reputation, the crew of the Lady LeGoon relaxes in the Broken Tusk tavern. After some interesting interactions, they speak with Duke, who tells them that the Shroud has shifted, revealing a new region called the Devil's Roar, where a long-lost captain is overseeing the construction of a new outpost. Before leaving the tavern, the crew speaks to the Men of Low Moral Fiber, who tell them they should check out Liar's Backbone before entering the Roar. So the crew heads there, where they meet Stitcher Jim, Who is fanatically talking about all the riches that the Devil's Shroud hides, and preparing to head back into the Devil's Roar. When asked about his necklace, he explains that he used to be in an alliance three decades ago that was dedicated to exploring the Shroud, which was betrayed by Captain Sorrow, who went mad and tried to kill everyone (before the Ferryman brought pirates back to the living world).

As the crew begins sailing through the Devil's Roar, their magic map shifts and changes to chart the new region. On Fetcher's Rest the crew finds the corpse of Fetcher Farley who was sliced to death, and a piece of cursed treasure which has started turning Cuttle to stone. At Brian's Bazaar they meet Brian, an eccentric man who claims to sell powerful things. Turns out, he is telling the truth, and the crew decides to kidnap him to ensure that his cure for Cuttle works, which is a glowing crystal phallus that must be worn to work. On Flintlock Peninsula, the crew discovers Flintlock Bert's corpse, who died of starvation wedged between two rocks. On Forsaken Brink, the crew discovers the corpse of Hepzibah Jones, who was marooned. On Ruby's Fall the crew finds the corpse of Ruby Carter, who fell to her death, and a journal belonging to someone named Grace, talking about her alliance and the land that they had discovered. The journal also describes a Box of Wondrous Secrets that Stitcher Jim looked inside of and couldn't describe what he saw. Grace is wary of the thing.

At Morrow's Peak Outpost, the crew meets Captain Grace Morrow, the woman in the journal. She explains that it was Jim that betrayed the alliance, and that he tried to poison her because he wanted the Box of Wondrous Secrets for himself. As proof she shows the crew a letter that Jim had written to his master, where he wrote that he found the box his master was looking for, and that it's been proving difficult to off Morrow. After trying to rob the local Gold Hoarder, the crew's reputation with that company has worsened. At Roaring Trader's the crew meets a pun loving Eleanor and Cuttle's curse has been stopped, though the parts of him that changed to stone remain. At the Devil's Thirst the crew finds Old Coop's corpse, who was poisoned, and a Box of Wondrous Secrets, which the crew heard a voice from, so they opened the box, and inside were stars. Terrified, Jose slammed it shut. They took the box with them but kept it wrapped. On Ashen Reaches the crew finds another journal of Grace's, which describes the crazy things that have happened to her, a run in with the Redmaw Megalodon, her trouble with the merfolk and eventual marriage to their prince, then the appearance of the Ferry of the Damned, the crab invasion, and visits from the Pirate Lord. It's unclear how much of her stories are true. The crew returned to Morrow and told her that they found all her crewmates. She thanks them for believing her and asks them to spread the word about Jim, saying that she believes he has been working for the first Gold Hoarder, a dreadful skeleton lord. She asks you to bring her any Boxes of Wondrous Secrets you find, and you give her the one you fond and she pays you handsomely.

Confronting Jim at Liar's Backbone, he doubles down on his story, admitting Captain Sorrow was a nickname but claiming he told the full truth. Not taking it, the crew tells him about the letter, and after denying it for a moment, he concedes and admits to the murders. Threatening Jim he says he isn't scared of you, because he has a, "very big, very wealthy friend," and that all he needs to do in the Devil's roar is find his old stash where he kept the Box of Wondrous Secrets.

What does the Gold Hoarder want with one of these boxes?

The Dark Relics

Part 1 - August 1719
Duke tells the crew that some skeletons have stolen "Dark Relics" from the Order of Souls and that some strange "Reaper's Chests" have been surfacing. The crew hunts down a skeleton crew hiding Dark Relics and retrieves them, finding that the relics appear to be bewitching dolls, vessels of enchanting, and ritual skulls. The crew has a run-in with another ship before finding a Reaper's Chest, which looks similar to the Box of Wondrous Secrets, but is half as sinister. The crew takes everything to Duke and sells it.

Part 2 - September 1719
Duke says he cracked open all the Reaper's Chests people have brought him and discovered they are full of bones and clothing, so he did the sensible thing and decided to start selling the good clothes in his "Black Market" and bury the rags and bones in boxes on Shipwreck Bay, but he says Stitcher Jim is interested in the rag and bone crates, and he's taken up residence on the same island where Merrick wrecked his ship.

The Lady LeGoon sails to the uncharted island at I-12 and checks out the strange things being built up there, including some sketches and notes on an automaton bird (you can recognize the handwriting), an open Reaper's Chest (filled with bones and some ornate red and black clothing), and a construction site with a stone circle where Stitcher Jim and a Masked Stranger stand. Percy speaks with Stitcher Jim, immediately aggressive since he murdered his whole alliance. Stitcher Jim gets defensive and claims he feels sorry and has turned over a new leaf since his "beloved" (the masked stranger) saved him from the Devil's Roar. Prodding him about what he's doing here and why he's interested in the rag and bone crates, he refuses to say much except claiming that some people at the seaposts might pay him a quick buck for the bones and rags to make jewelry. Percy and Francois get violent but the Masked Stranger silently threatens then by staring them down and putting away the paper she was writing on. They stop attacking Jim but Percy lunges for the mask stranger, who dodges him and jabs her heel into his back. Jim took the chance to run and start lighting their ship on fire, so Percy and Francois run to the ship and shove Jim in the water, and sail away.

What are the two villains building?

Part 3 - October 1918
Duke says his Black Marked is doing well but he's worried about competition from the new "Pirate Emporium," and that something sinister happened at Old Boot Fort. Asking him for more information on it, he tells you that he doesn't know anything more than it was a ritual using the Dark Relics and that it's spawned some strange "Shadows of Fate." He says Jim knows more about it on Castaway Isle.

Wary of their last run in, Percy and Francois send Jose in the lil' LeGoon to speak to Jim. He is once again accompanied by the Masked Stranger, and he is looking towards the smoke covered Old Boot Fort through his spyglass. Upon asking him, Jim tells Jose that he knows a thing or two from his previous employment with the Gold Hoarder, and that after visiting the fort, has deduced that the skeletons that stole the dark relics did a ritual that backfired into creating a window into the Sea of the Damned, which has twisted the fort into something new. He says that if you want to stop the skeletons from doing anything else then you should light the six statues in the fort with the 6 flames of fate and place a ritual skull on the altar. Jose asks the Masked Stranger if Jim has proposed yet and she says nothing.

Jose relays the information to his crewmates after docking the rowboat and so the crew decides to find many ways to kill themselves. Percy tries to kill Francois quickly and painlessly, by fails and Francois bleeds out  until Percy cuts his neck. Francois returns from the ferry with the pink flame, and lights Percy on fire with it. Percy burns to death and returns with the red flame. The two of them toss Jose into the cannon and fire him into the ocean where he is gruesomely eaten by sharks, but he returns, terrified, with the blue flame. Tying the sleeping Cuttle to the top of the mast with his sword in hand, the crew sails into the storm until Cuttle is struck by lightning. By miracle of sleepwalking and rolling, Cuttle returns from the ferry with the white flame. Percy and Francois get the purple and green flames from an island by getting killed by a skeleton and snake respectively. With all 6 flames, the crew retrieves a ritual skull from Duke, who has been stashing the ones he's been sold on the outposts.

They then head to the newly dubbed "Fort of the Damned" and slowly light each statue showing each kind of death, until the cage bearing a headless skeleton opens, and they place the ritual skull upon it's neck. This awakens the fort and the crew is forced to fight through several waves of Shadows of Fate, shadow skeletons that can only be made vulnerable to attacks by their respective flame of fate color. After fighting for a while and dying to some gunpowder barrels, the final wave of skeletons rise, one of which is the Ghost of Lord Graymarrow, who doesn't seem fully conscious, since he doesn't speak and just keeps laughing. Battling this mad-skeleton the crew eventually defeats him and takes his key, claiming the treasures in the vault below as their own.

Why was the Fort of the Damned created?

Part 4 - November 1719
Duke is missing from the tavern and in his place is Stitcher Jim, dressed like a bilge rat and wearing a strange necklace which appears to be a skeletal finger. Duke left a note on the counter saying he went to find Larinna, leader of the bilge rats, to talk about organizing an attack against the skeletons since they've gotten too organized. Jim says that Duke left him in charge of the black market and refuses to explain his necklace. Asking him where the masked stranger is, Jim tells the crew that his beloved has found a little refuge to continue her research undisturbed. Heading to Wanderer's Refuge, the crew goes in Wanda/Warsmith's old lab, and sees some shadows moving from behind the back wall. Peeking through the wooden slats, the crew sees the masked stranger sitting at a desk writing something carefully, with her porcelain mask set on the table beside her.

Who is the Masked Stranger?
